On July 24 the friends of the Belarusan Youth Movement (BelMov) took part in a conference "Fearless Voices: Accounts of Former Political Prisoners" that took place in the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
Representatives from Belarus, Myanmar, Cuba, Syria, Uzbekistan, and other countries reported on the political and social conditions. Many have gone through political persecution and long prison sentences because of their liberal viewpoints while others spoke of their families’ and other people’s hardships and misfortunes caused by the totalitarian regimes in their countries.
