Friends! The Belarusian authorities have tightened repression against democratic activists for the first moths of 2008. Solemn peaceful demonstration on 25 March, dedicated to proclamation of the Belarusian National Republic’s independence, was broken up violently. |

Celebration of the Belarusian National Republic 90th anniversary in Minsk ended with mass arrests and cruel beating of people. Hundreds of policemen and riot policemen were thrown against participants of the demonstration. More than 100 people were detained. Many persons were beaten. As detained activists said to Chater’97 press center, emergency took demonstrators with broken ribs and head injuries. 5-7 thousands of people took part in the action, held in different parts of Minsk. |

On Sunday March 23 the Belarusian youth in New York held a demonstration in front of the building of the UN Headquarters and a holiday party and dinner (dedicated to the BNR 90th anniversary) followed the demonstration in the public hall of St. Cyril of Turau Cathedral. In the Belarusian Museum a new exhibition of Belarusian artists was opened and American Belarusians took part in a national dictation. |

On March 4th in Tallinn completed its work the Congress of the new Belarusan Diaspora of Europe and the USA and the representatives of the democratic forces of Belarus. The delegates, who participated in this congress, are active young Belarusans from Belarus, the EU and the USA are representatives of more than 25 different organizations, parties and groups. They are interested in cooperation among themselves. There were there also honorable guests, representatives of the older generation of Diaspora and Belarusian political and cultural elite: Zanon Pazniak, Ales Shaternik and Yakub Hutman. |

Leaders of youth organizations of Belarus have announced that they are set to take an active part in the civil campaign "European Belarus". "Over the recent years many Russian politicians say that Belarus could lose independence and become a part of Russia. A referendum on Constitutional Act of the so-called "union state" could take place in autumn. In this situation joining the European Union coukd become the only guarantee of Belarus’ independence’s preservation," told an activist of the civil campaign "Jeans for Freedom!" Yauhen Afnagel at a press-conference in Minsk today. |

Administration of the penal colony №3 informed in written form relatives of political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin that he was denied of parole release. The official letter runs that Kazulin "gave a negative account of himself: he has 10 breaches of discipline." |

On February 10th 2008 at St. Cyril's of Turau Cathedral, a new art exhibition was open. It is organized by the Belarusian Museum of New York. The artist Aliaksandr Grygoriev has his exhibition in USA for the first time. He was able to bring only a small part of his paintings for this exhibition. Two of them he is presenting to the Belarusian Museum. |

It is that time of the month again! On Saturday, February 16, from 3 till 5 pm, we will hold the next Belarus demonstration which corresponds with the "Day of Solidarity with Belarus." The demonstration will be held at its usual location across from the Belarusian Embassy. |
